Reaching For The Stars:: Weeks of September 8th-26th

During the upcoming weeks Mrs. Stelly's Stars are Learning through the theme of

In Language Arts

We will be reading and comparing literature selections which help us explore the many ways that different families live, work, play and grow together.

Children will be using the idea of sound families to build their phonic skills, blending the Pathway 1 sounds of

(a, m, s, p, t, i, h) in various combinations

We will continue to use chants and songs to continue our work in mastering the names and sounds of all  letters of the alphabet'

and use combinations of sight words and sounds to create written sentences about our families.

this theme will continue as we use counting and representing numbers (1-10) to create number stories that represent different groups of families we see in our communities and nature.

skills will come into play as we discuss the attributes of the different types of animals we see in nature and how to classify them according to those attributes as well as the habitats in which they live

Artistic Synthesis

of these ideas will occur as students work to create painting about animal families and their own families based on the artistic skill of blending colors as depicted in the literature of Eric Carle.

Here's To an Exciting Week as We Reach For the Stars...

Mrs. Stelly

With seventeen years as a teacher here at 32nd St.,I would like to welcome a new Kindergarten class to our Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School.   My educational background in education, child development, history, dance, and the theater arts work together to provide a comprehensive arts based educational program that can cater to each students specific learning style.

My educational philosophy is that Kindergarten is much more than a period of ”play” or “fun”. It is a standards based educational program carefully designed to meet the needs of the five year old child.

It is my primary interest that your child become socially, emotionally, and academically secure in the school environment, develop work habits that lead to success, and respect and enjoy their companions.

At the end of a successful Kindergarten year it is expected that your child will have extended their knowledge and skills, and acquired good habits that will provide the necessary foundations for first grade.

Our class name is Mrs. Stelly’s Stars, because I believe  each child has been created as a special star in this universe. I believe children learn best when they feel happy, secure and proud so you will see them bringing home many recognitions and awards for their performance.

Welcome to a exciting, wonderful year you and your child will always cherish.
